This is a matte display overlay, much like a mobile phone screen protector. We've had them custom cut for the BOE displays used in North Star. By adding a little bit of texture to the display surface, they reduce the amount of shimmer that can occur in some situations.
They do add a little bit of sub-pixel mottling to the image, so whether or not the overlay is appropriate might depend on your usage scenario.
